Benue Court Remands Man, 32, In Prison Over Defilement Of 2 Minors

A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a
32-year-old builder in prison over alleged defilement of two
sisters of ages six and eight years.
Lorpuur, who lives at the Hemko Hospital, Kanshio,
Makurdi, is facing a two-count charge bordering on child
defilement.
The Magistrate, Mrs Lillian Terseer-Tsumba, did not take
the plea of the accused for want of jurisdiction and
adjourned the case to Dec. 4 for mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Terzungwe Kajo told the court
that the one Mr Benjamin Tor, who also lives behind Hemko Hospital, reported the case at the ‘B’ Division Police
Station, Makurdi, on Oct. 6.
“The complainant in the First Information Report filed at the police station said his late brother’s widow informed him that her two daughters were both raped.
“Tor said the woman, who also lives behind hospital,
discovered her daughters walking in a funny way and took them to the hospital for examination, where it was revealed that they had been raped.
“The girls were questioned and they revealed that it was the accused, who is also their mother’s lover, who had S3xual intercourse with them.
“When further examinations were conducted on the girls, it was discovered that the accused, who was HIV positive, had infected them,’’ Kajo said. The prosecutor said Lorpuur was thereafter arrested by the police. Kajo said investigation was still ongoing in the case and asked the court for an adjournment.
The offences contravened Section 284 of Penal Code, Laws of Benue. (NAN)
